New Song: "Angry Eyes" by Dave Hill Jr.
I’m excited to share the release of my new single, Angry Eyes, a track that came together after a particularly tough night with my son. The song is deeply personal, capturing that raw moment when emotion takes over, and you need to find an outlet to process it. For me, that moment led to sitting down at the piano and allowing the music to take shape. What came out was a song about recognizing anger—not as something to suppress but as a way to express care and connection.
Angry Eyes reflects this realization, exploring how we can transform intense feelings into something meaningful and positive. Rather than meeting my son’s frustration with more frustration, I used music to create a dialogue of understanding. This isn’t just about me—it’s about navigating the challenging dynamics of life, relationships, and especially parenthood.
Musically, I played drums, piano, and percussion and sang the vocals for the track, recording it at the legendary London Bridge Studio in Seattle—a space that holds a lot of personal history for me. Working with Jonathan Plum, an old friend and brilliant producer, added layers of meaning to the entire process.
For those of you who’ve been following my journey, you know songwriting is a relatively new venture for me. After decades of playing drums professionally, I started writing songs in my 50s, and it's been a transformative experience. "Angry Eyes" follows other releases like Run With the Dog and Song I’m Afraid to Write, continuing the theme of personal storytelling.
Angry Eyes has been played on 91.3 KCBS multiple times!
I invite you to give Angry Eyes a listen and let me know how it resonates with you. Whether it speaks to the challenges of being a parent, the struggle of managing your emotions, or just the rawness of life—we all share these moments of vulnerability.
